Friendly staff: Communication through booking.com message is efficient. The receptionist came outside to greet us when we were parking our car. He offered to help with luggage. Private onsen: We booked the Twin room without opened-air bath. They have private onsen room with opened-air bath you can book for 1 hour use. People with tattoo are not allowed to use public bath. Room: Much nicer than the photos on their website Tatami area, bath tub, comfy doona and pillows Dinner: Private dining space. Traditional Japanese 10 courses meal with some interesting dishes. Mostly seafood. Very good way to experience Japan food culture. I contacted the hotel about my fiancé’s seafood allergy. They kindly offered alternative. They served wagyu beef instead of seafood. Breakfast: Traditional Japanese food, fish, rice, miso soup, tofu. Very big meal. It was a bit too much for us. Cleanness: Hotel is very clean. The building is old so there are some spots which is understandable. Premium time Ticket for Lake Shikotsu ICE FESTIVAL: can purchase at hotel for ¥1500. can enter 2 times, 20:15-21:15 and 10:00-12:00 next day. 20:15-21:15 is for premium ticket holders only, can enjoy the festival with less crowds. 5-10 minutes walk from hotel

Excellent food and facilities. Was able to fully relax with both the private bath and communal baths. We also liked the different lounges in the ryokan with tea, coffee, games and freshly baked pastries that offered something special to each day. It was also very conveniently located close to both the bus stop and also activities along the lake (visitor centre, wild bird sanctuary etc) so was very easy to step out for a walk. The free shuttle offered to Chitose was also very convenient.

The environment is so peaceful, calm and relaxing. It’s very near to lake Shikotsu. Definitely a great choice to away from city hustle bustle. I feel so much refreshed and recharged after the stay. Staff are very friendly and warm, and surprisingly they can address my name when I first walk into the hotel. The room is with a Japanese tatami sitting area where is my favourite area. The bed is so comfortable and i had a good night sleep.

The nostalgic feel when you enter the building. lots of timber and woods used. Love the views that it provides of Lake Shikotsu. tThe staff are excellent as are of all Japanese. Keiseiki dinner, which was included, was fresh. The service cre that served us, Sato san, patient in explaining all the disihes, kind and eloquent. Good job Sato san.

Amazing onsen both in the room and public, stunning lake view from the lounge, free tea and croissants that were not even advertised, shuttle to JR station, just generally a very elegant and cozy vibe. One of the best ryokans I ever stayed at.
